Tatterdemalion
A Twisted Tale & a Timely Reminder: Why Self-Protection Matters
I recently finished reading Tatterdemalion by Robert Crawford, and wow—what a twisted ending. It’s one of those books that makes you sit back and think about how well you really know the people in your life. Just when you think you have someone figured out, layers unravel and reveal something entirely unexpected. I won’t spoil anything (I’ll save that for my WIP—work in progress), but this story stuck with me in more ways than one.
What really hit home is the importance of self-protection. Especially when you realize that Tatterdemalion draws inspiration from the true and terrifying history of Jack the Ripper. It’s haunting to think about the women who were left disoriented, defenseless, and ultimately lost to violence.
According to UN Women, an estimated 736 million women—almost 1 in 3—have been subjected to physical and/or sexual violence at least once in their lives. That number is heartbreaking. And it’s one more reason I’m passionate about spreading awareness and empowering others to take charge of their safety.
That’s why I want to introduce you to a couple of my friends from Damsel in Defense—a company that provides tools and training to help you stay safe and confident wherever you go.

These women are passionate about helping others feel prepared and protected. If you're not sure why that matters, just read Tatterdemalion. It’s a historical thriller with a chilling perspective on infamous characters tied to the Jack the Ripper case—and it definitely made me take a hard look at how prepared I am to protect myself.
So please, take a moment to look into these resources. Think about your own safety and the safety of the people you love. Whether it’s spiritually, mentally, or physically—your well-being matters.
Let me know if you end up reading Tatterdemalion. I’d love to hear what you think.
Take care of yourself—always.
In light and love,
Alice McMurtry

Black Bear Alibi
A Black Bear Alibi by: J. C. Fuller
I loved this book so much that I went back and forth with reading this book with it’s actually paperback copy and the audio book. I loved listening to it as I was driving around town. But, then I loved reading the paperback too because I ended up giving the books gilding the edges or was it the tainted loves or the fact there’s someone unlived in Rockfish Island, it is a mystery! But, can you tell me what I loved more? It is so hard not to spill this story.
I really love the undertones that she gives you while you are sitting on the edge if you are right for who did it?!?
This book deserves 5 stars and sealed with readmybook.net
