I started writing at 13, saved up for a typewriter in 1962, and finished my first novel nine months later. By the time I graduated high school, I’d written six.

My books are sold as science fiction, but they’re really about people — no aliens, no magic, just ordinary folks in extraordinary situations. I call it fiction that doesn’t taste like fiction.
