Dana Lucka’s Journey to Picture Perfect Love
✨ Ink & Airwaves Podcast Feature
A Conversation on Authenticity, Writing, and Picture Perfect Love
There are some creator conversations that stay with you long after the microphones turn off. Our recent interview with Dana Lucka was one of those moments.
During this heartfelt episode of Ink & Airwaves, we explored the inspiration behind Picture Perfect Love, the realities of balancing creativity with life, and what it truly means to live authentically.
A Little Note From the Recording Room ☕📚
This interview was recorded live during a real creator moment surrounded by conversation, laughter, community, and the beautiful bustle of people gathering around books and creativity.
You may hear a little background noise throughout the episode, but we decided to keep those moments in because they capture the heart of what independent creator spaces truly feel like: authentic, alive, and shared together in real time.
In many ways, it felt less like a formal interview and more like sitting at the table with fellow book lovers while stories unfolded naturally around us.
A Story Rooted in Real Life
Dana shared that the original spark for her novel came years ago during a Christmas party conversation where a friend encouraged her to write down the colorful stories surrounding her family and life experiences.
What began as a passing suggestion slowly transformed into a deeply personal contemporary romance centered around growth, empowerment, and self-discovery.
Set primarily in Southern California, Picture Perfect Love follows Dani Babich, an aspiring lawyer navigating self-esteem struggles, relationships, career ambition, and the emotional complexity of finding her voice.
One of the most beautiful parts of our conversation was hearing Dana describe the importance of empowering women to “drive their own bus” and reclaim ownership over their lives instead of following expectations placed upon them by society.
The Beauty of Imperfection
A recurring theme throughout the interview was the idea that perfection is often an illusion.
Dana explained that even the tilted picture frame featured on the book cover was intentional. It represents the imperfect beauty of life and love.
That message resonates strongly throughout the novel itself:
sometimes the life we end up living becomes more meaningful than the one we originally planned.
From Technical Writing to Fiction
Before venturing into fiction, Dana spent years writing textbooks and medical journal articles before eventually stepping into the world of storytelling.
Transitioning into creative writing became an entirely different experience. During the interview, Dana described it as:
“It was like opening up a window and allowing your spirit to roam free.”
She also shared that after the passing of her father, she realized life was too short to leave stories unfinished. That realization pushed her to finally complete the manuscript she had carried for nearly a decade.
On Writer’s Block and Creativity
Dana offered honest insight into writer’s block, explaining that stepping away and reading other authors often helps her reconnect with inspiration.
One of my favorite moments in the interview was discussing how books create richer experiences because readers get to build the world inside their own imagination. We talked about movie adaptations, storytelling depth, and how readers often fall in love with the details that never make it onto the screen.
Books, Community, and Creator Magic
Toward the end of the episode, we shared Dana’s handcrafted Creator Treasure Box filled with custom merch inspired by her novel, including buttons, keychains, self-care gifts, and handcrafted surprises created with the heart of the ReadMyBook.net creator community.
It became one of those moments that perfectly captured why creator spaces matter:
stories become even more meaningful when readers, makers, and authors come together.
Final Thoughts from Dana
When asked what message she wanted to leave listeners with, Dana shared this:
“Live your authentic life. Drive your own bus.”
And honestly, that may be one of the most important reminders any creator can hear.
